Fun, Springtime Activities that You can Share with Your Kids

Spring has finally arrived. The days are warmer, and the skies are just the right color of azure blue. While the flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping, it’s also a great time for your kids and you to get outside and enjoy Mother Nature. Are you wondering what you can do for fun this spring? Well, be sure to follow along. Listed below are some fun springtime activities that the whole family can enjoy.

 Photo journal

All those beautiful spring flowers and blooms can turn any yard or outdoors areas into a “Spring Wonderland”. Don’t let all that springtime beauty go to waste. Grab a camera or a smartphone and go to clicking away. Capture those beautiful pictures of nature and use them to create a spring photo journal.

What goes into a Spring Photo Journal? These journals not only contain pictures of spring flowers and birds. They contain ideas, memories, and other ponderings. This journal can be a physical one or a digital one. No matter which kind your tween or teen decides to create, Spring Journals are a great way to capture some spring memories.

Tea/Garden Party

You and your kids can really get into the spirit of spring by hosting a tea party. This isn’t the same tea party that your child created during her childhood. This one doesn’t include dolls or plastic tea cups. This tea party is all about socializing and enjoying the warm spring weather.

First things first. Let your child invite some friends over. Make or buy some finger foods to serve at your party. Select the place for your party. Although outdoors in the yard or garden is best, you can host your tea party inside. And, of course, you don’t want to forget the springtime decorations.

Pastel colors are synonymous with spring, but that doesn’t mean that you are stuck with these colors. You and your tween can decide on a theme for your party and chose colors based on that theme. Don’t shy away from bolder colors like red, green, or purple.

Nature walks

Get out into nature. Nature walks are another way for you and your child to celebrate spring. There are several different places to choose from for your family nature walk. You can make arrangements to visit a nature trail, your local park, or a recreation area. You may even want to consider taking a nature walk in your own backyard.

Before heading off on a nature walk be sure to check the weather. You don’t want to get caught off guard by sudden rain storms or showers.

Don’t forget about safety. Before heading off on your family walk, be sure to let someone know where you plan to go walking. While on your nature walk, be sure to encourage your child to observe the different types of birds, insects, and flowers that she sees. This is also a great time to get some great nature photos.

Sports

Playing sports is a fun way for your child to enjoy the warm weather of spring. Sports like softball, baseball, and basketball are great outdoors sporting activities that you can all enjoy. They can even help you and your kids stay in shape, build team work skills, and critical thinking abilities.

Picnic

Picnics are great springtime activities for the whole family. Picnics allow you and your family to enjoy some good food and to socialize with friends and family. Great spots for your picnic include the local park, at the beach, or the backyard.

Gardening

Your child can learn how to produce her own vegetables. By planting a garden, she will be learning responsibility and self-reliance. Some vegetables that are great to plant this time of year are carrots, chives, onions, broccoli, and peas. This is also a great time to add in those science lessons.

Flower garden

If you don’t want to plant a garden but you like pretty flowers, you can opt to plant a flower garden with your child. Spring is a great time to plant those pretty spring flowers. Some seasonal spring flowers are pansies, gladiolus, forget-me-nots, tulips, and lilies.  They can each help to transform your yard into a springtime oasis.

The cold days are over, and warm weather has set in. As nature is reborn, now is a good time to get your family out and into nature. This spring show some appreciation for all the beauty of nature by doing some of the fun activities listed above.
