All you have to do is open your front door, and you will hear the sounds of change. Those spring birds are beginning to chirp, and spring flowers are beginning to push their way through the earth. There may still be a few cold nights ahead and a few chilly days, but spring is definitely on the way. And, as the weather makes a transition from cold to warm, we need to prepare to transition too.
Removing Old Clutter from Your House
You can start with your home. “Out with the old. In with the new”. We’ve all heard the saying before, and as spring approaches, we need to begin cleaning out our houses. To prevent yourself from becoming overwhelmed with “spring cleaning”, you can start by cleaning one area at a time.
A niffy piece of advice for decluttering your closet is to go through and remove 1 item for every 2 that you decide to keep. Be sure to toss or give away any clothes that you haven’t worn in over 6 months.
Transition Those Colors
As the seasons begin to change, be sure to change out those dark, wintery colors for spring ones. Add more delicate, airy alternatives to those dark curtains and coverings. If you don’t want to completely change what you have, you can simply add some spring colors. Purchase some pastel throw pillows and add them to your darker colored couch. Change the ties on your curtains. Remove the old ones and add some pops of spring colors. Add a pastel runner to your table.
Let in the Sun
Nothing says spring like some sunshine. Open the blinds and let in some natural sunlight. It is amazing how natural light can help to transform a room.
Decorations
You can add some touches of spring to your home by adding some seasonal decoration. You can do something as simple as add flowers to a room to breath some spring life into your home. Live flowers are always the best choice, but you can also opt to use dried flowers instead. Dried flowers can be tied together and hung upside down in kitchen windows. Even plastic flowers strategically placed in vases and other centerpieces can help to chase away the drab of winter and welcome in the spring season. Other simple and affordable decorations can be purchased from a local store or consignment shop.
Citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, and oranges can also be placed in clear vases and displayed on counters or the kitchen table. They also add their sweet, tangy aroma to your home. Best of all, not only are they pretty, but they are also edible.
Stop looking outside at winter’s last stand. Those cold days and nights are almost over, and spring is headed your way. Get prepared for brighter days and warmer weather. Transition your home from the incoming spring season with some of the ideas listed above.
