Ah, the crisp air, the vibrant leaves, and the aroma of pumpkin spice lattes – it can only mean one thing: fall is here! While you might be lamenting the end of summer break, there’s one thing to look forward to – fall fashion. As an educator, you got to keep your wardrobe professional, but your profession dictates that you keep things comfortable for those long days in the classroom. So, what is a teacher to do? In this post, we’ll examine the fantastic fall fashion ideas for teachers that strike the perfect balance between cozy and stylish.
Layer It Up
Fall weather can be quite unpredictable…especially if you live in a place Mississippi like I do. So, layering is your best friend. Not only does it keep you warm, but it also adds depth and style to your outfit.
The Classic Cardigan
You may not be Taylor Swift, but a good ole cardigan can do wonders for your wardrobe. A cozy cardigan is a fall essential for teachers. You can opt for neutral shades like gray, beige, or navy. And, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color like red or fuchsia when necessary. Throw your cardigan over a simple blouse or dress, and you’ll be prepared for chilly mornings and warmer afternoons.
Turtleneck Sweaters
Turtlenecks are making a comeback, and they’re perfect for teachers. They exude sophistication and warmth. Pair a turtleneck sweater with slacks or a skirt for a polished look. And, on those casual Friday, they can help to add a sophistication to your casual look.
Light Weight Scarves
Add a pop of color and warmth to your outfit with a lightweight scarf. Scarves are some of my favorite accessories no matter what the season. These simple items can completely transform an outfit. In the fall, they can even help to add a touch of cozy, warmth.
Earthy Tones
Fall is all about those earthy, warm tones. These shades not only complement the season but also look great on teachers. Some colors to consider include:
Rust Red
Rust red is a rich, warm color that pairs beautifully with neutrals like brown and beige. You can incorporate this hue into your wardrobe through dresses, blouses, or accessories.
Olive Green
Olive green is a color that looks great on both men and women. You can wear an olive-green blazer, pants, or a skirt to add a touch of fall to your outfits.
Mustard Yellow
Mustard yellow is a vibrant, cheerful color for fall. Incorporate it into your wardrobe with sweaters, scarves, or even shoes for a fun and trendy look. And, hey, I added with a pair of pants from designer Renee Greenstein (@ReneeGreenstein )
Comfy Footwear
Teaching often means being on your feet all day. Why? Because they want teachers to move around their classroom without sitting all day. Don’t ask me why. I’m just the teacher. As a result, comfortable footwear is crucial. Here are some options that are both stylish and teacher-friendly:
Ankle Boots
Ankle boots are a staple for fall. They provide support, warmth, and style. Pair them with skirts, dresses, or jeans for a chic look.
Loafers
Loafers are the epitome of comfort and professionalism. They come in a variety of colors and styles, making them a great addition to your fall wardrobe.
Fashionable Sneakers
Sneakers have evolved beyond the gym, and there are countless stylish options available. Look for classic white sneakers or those with subtle fall-inspired colors. But, if your school district doesn’t allow sneakers, leave them off.
My favorite footwear for work includes Clarks, Earth Origin, & Alegria shoes. These are all comfortable and stylish.
Skirts and Dresses
You can easily transition your skirts and dresses these fall season. And, here are some ways to do it:
Midi Skirts
Midi skirts are a perfect choice for fall. They keep your legs warm and add a touch of elegance to your outfit. Pair them with tights and ankle boots for a cozy look.
Shirt Dresses
Shirt dresses are comfortable and versatile. You can wear them on their own or layer them with a cardigan or blazer. Don’t forget to accessorize with a belt for a more polished look for school.
Wrap Dresses
Wrap dresses are universally flattering and work well for teachers. They provide a professional yet stylish appearance. Choose one in a fall color or pattern to embrace the season.
Denim
Fall is the ideal time to reintroduce denim into your wardrobe. Here’s how to make it work while teaching your little heart out:
High-Waisted Jeans
Okay, these are for jean days…if your school allows them. High-waisted jeans are a classic choice. They’re not only comfortable but also add a touch of vintage charm to your look. Pair them with tucked-in blouses or sweaters.
Denim Jacket
A well-fitted denim jacket is a fall staple. It’s versatile and can be layered over dresses, blouses, or even a simple t-shirt and slacks combo. And, usually, you can get away with a denim jacket even when you can’t get away with the actual denim jeans.
I paired mine in this picture with a large, blue necklace and my trusty white shirt by designer, Susan Graver from QVC (@susangraverstyle).
Denim Skirts
Denim skirts are a fun and trendy choice. They come in various lengths and styles, so you can find one that suits your personal taste. Again, check your school policy.
Accessories
Now, for one of my favorite parts, accessories! Don’t forget to accessorize to complete your fall look:
Statement Earrings
Statement earrings can elevate your outfit. Choose fall-inspired designs like leaves, acorns, or warm-toned gemstones.
Belts
Belts can cinch your waist and add definition to your outfits. Choose wide belts to accentuate your shape or skinny belts for a more subtle touch.
Satchel Bag
A satchel bag is a practical and stylish choice for teachers. Look for one in a rich fall color to tie your look together. I must confess. I am basically a Dooney & Bourke girl. But, you can find bags cheaper that also look nice.
Outerwear Essentials
As the days get cooler, having the right outerwear is essential:
Trench Coats
Trench coats are a timeless addition to your wardrobe. They’re elegant, versatile, and keep you warm on those breezy fall mornings.
Pea Coats
Pea coats are both stylish and cozy. They pair wonderfully with casual and professional outfits. And, I have been dying to get one in soft pink.
Quilted Jackets
Quilted jackets are perfect for teachers who need to move around a lot. They’re lightweight and provide the right amount of warmth for fall.
Wide-Leg Pants & Jumpsuits
Wide-leg pants are not only comfortable but also incredibly stylish. They provide a polished and professional look while allowing for ease of movement. Pair them with a tucked-in blouse or a tailored blazer for a sophisticated teacher’s ensemble.
Jumpsuits are also fashionable in the fall season. Simply be sure to pair it well so that it meets your school board policy.
Plaid Patterns
Plaid is a classic fall pattern that never goes out of style. Incorporate plaid into your wardrobe with blouses, skirts, or scarves. It adds a touch of timeless charm to your outfits and complements the season beautifully while making you look oh so professional.
With these additional fall fashion ideas, you’re all set to step into the classroom with style and confidence. Embrace the season, stay cozy, and continue to inspire your students with your fashion-forward choices!
